Why We Chose Adoption

Cooking Thanksgiving Together

We have been together since we were teenagers and, even at 17 years old, we always said if we ever chose to have a family we would do so through adoption. This has been the only path we've wanted to take; it has always felt like the right decision for us. We love children and have been dreaming about having a family of our own to add to the joy and excitement our large family has brought to us. We're passionate about adoption because we want to be a part of helping a birth mother live the life she chooses while, of course, providing a loving and nurturing home for a child. This is a unique way to build a family and a decision we do not take lightly. We understand the complexities that a relationship between adoptive parents, birth parents, and child can bring and we feel prepared to embrace these complexities with empathy and compassion.

Meg's youngest cousin was adopted when Meg was a child. Her family talked about the adoption with her cousin and entire family from the very first day her cousin arrived home. Because her cousin was adopted internationally, the family made a trip to China to visit the town her cousin was born in and learn more about that region's specific culture. Her cousin is now an adult and loves to share her experience and feelings about her adoption. This experience has helped Meg understand what it's like for a family to integrate and embrace a child that arrived in a different way. Her cousin's adoption is openly talked about and connected with, but it hasn't changed her cousin's role in her immediate or extended family. Her cousin is as much a part of the family as anyone, and is so loved.

Addressing Cultural Diversity

When it comes to embracing all cultures, our neighborhood and extended family are welcome to all. Our neighborhood is multicultural and multigenerational while our extended family is made up of a variety of races and ethnicities. We're committed to a child growing up not only being educated and immersed in their birth-parents' culture but also seeing those cultures modeled in their everyday lives. Our city has a lot of great cultural organizations and festivals, giving a child the opportunity to meet others that share their cultural heritage and learn all about who they are and where they come from.

With a child growing up with aunts, uncles, and cousins of different ethnicities and backgrounds, a child can form natural relationships to explore their heritage with someone familiar to them. We are also committed and excited to learn as much as we can about you and your background so we can make sure that the child not only feels connected to it, but that they are proud of it.

Education We will Provide

We're extremely passionate about the importance of education. When children are younger we believe the purpose of education is to create independence and instill confidence. A child should be encouraged by what they learn.

We will be in a well-rated school zone to ensure their education is well rounded and sets them up for success. As a child gets older, their education should help them make informed decisions as they begin to experience the world.

When it comes to higher education, we believe this doesn't just mean college. It's about learning life skills in order to be a successful individual and member of the community. If a child does not feel compelled to go to a university, we will steer them toward a vocation. Vocational education can lead to strong careers and build essential qualities when becoming an adult. However, we are both university-educated and feel prepared to help a child navigate that path if that is what they choose.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Cat Enjoying the Window Flower Boxes

We live in Texas near a large nature preserve where there are family oriented events each season, some of the most popular being the balloon festival and Fourth of July. Our downtown square also hosts live music, family festivals, and more events on most weekends. Our neighborhood is filled with families and our closest neighbors have children ranging infant to teen. We also live next to the local middle school.

Our Lovely Home

We live in a cozy 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom one story home with colorful furnishings and lots of artwork. We DIY as much as we can, so the home has a very personal touch. The living room is our favorite place to be; it's where we spend time connecting with each other and friends. Our backyard is designed for hosting. We have bright flower beds, a picnic table, and a big covered patio.

One of our favorite parks is the nature preserve where there are bike trails, hiking trails, and a small lake next to a recreation center. There are always children riding around the lake and neighbors walking dogs. Our neighborhood park has a playground, basketball court, and volleyball court - it's where we walk our dog most days. The recreation center has indoor and outdoor pools including slides and swim lessons.

Our Extended Families

Baking with Our Nieces

We have a large family that lives near us including our 3 grandparents, 5 parents, 7 siblings, and 5 nieces/nephews. In addition to this family, we consider our close friends a part of our extended family too. We've been friends with this group since we were kids. Every week we have friends or family over for dinner, movies, or boardgames. Our close-knit family loves to get together for various holidays and parties. We love the community we've built around us.

Meg with her Sister, Mom, and Grandma Nonnie

Our family is unique as it includes a variety of races and ethnicities. Our brother-in-law is Hispanic and has taught our nieces and nephew to be bilingual. One of our nephews is African-American and very close to his grandparents, bringing new perspectives and experiences into our family.

Christian's mother is a pediatric occupational therapist, helping children develop successful life skills. We are lucky that all our friends and family are very supportive of our decision to welcome a child through adoption. We've received nothing but love, understanding, and most of all excitement from every member of our family. We've taken care to help those around us understand the impactful role a birth-mother will have in the life of this child.

From Us to You

Hi there, we're Meg and Christian!

Thank you for taking the time to consider us to be part of your and your child’s journey. We understand you’re facing an incredibly difficult situation and want you to know we’re here to support you as much as we can. Our focus is on what’s best for you. We would love to have the opportunity to get to know you and what you envision for your child.

We're high school sweethearts; we've been together for over 13 years and were married in 2020. We don’t have any children, but we have a large extended family and group of friends who are as excited as we are to make this family a little bigger by welcoming a child. We've always planned to be adoptive parents; this is the only way we've imagined growing our family. Knowing this is the path we’re taking, we’ve spent years learning as much as we can and preparing a loving environment for the child. This has included educating ourselves on other cultural backgrounds and being active in a community that celebrates diversity.

We want to offer a child a fun and loving life. We're passionate about learning new things and sharing new experiences. That's why we're members of the local art museum, science museum, and zoo. Whether it's a museum day, hiking, going to community celebrations, or even events like the Renaissance Faire, we're always looking to get out of the house and have some fun. At home, we love to have family and friends over for dinner and game nights. It's these activities that bring us together. Your child will grow up in a home that's filled with laughter and excitement alongside a big support system happily involved in their life.

We feel lucky that our support system is made up of many healthcare professionals including Christian's mom as a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Meg's uncle as a dentist, and two friends who are ER doctors. This helps give us confidence to make the healthiest and safest decisions when it comes to your child's health. In addition to healthcare, education is very important to us. We are excited to invest in your child’s education not only through schooling, but also through personal development such as learning an instrument and playing a sport.

As your child’s birth-mother, you will always be part of their support system as well. In addition to sharing letters and photos, we’re open to other forms of communication post-adoption depending on your comfort-level. We are committed to helping your child understand their adoption and know they are loved. We believe this is achieved through honest communication and transparency.

We're honored that you may consider us to be the adoptive parents for your child. We would love to connect with you, understand what you desire for your child's life, and learn how we can best support you. We have the utmost respect for you as you go through this process and we wish you all the best.
