Why We Chose Adoption

Together in Spain

We have always wanted to have kids. We have too much love to give and especially now that we have good control of scheduling at our respective workplaces and financially stable, we have never wanted a kid to share our lives more.

Adoption is the only path for us that makes sense. Through adoption, we hope to give a child a really loving home where they can grow up as a part of our family. A place where a birth mother will feel comfortable and confident with her decision on trusting us to take care of the child that she placed with us.

We are open to have an open adoption so we can keep the birth mother up to date on what is going on in the child's life, which includes different milestones and different things that they are learning by means of text messages, emails, personal letters written with pictures included.

Cultural Diversity

Chinese New Year

We are a transracial couple, Edwin is white and Adie is Asian from Malaysian ethnicity. Adie also spent many years living in Japan and Singapore before settling down in California. So background wise, we are exposed to many different cultures.

We enjoy exploring the diversity of the world. We love taking trips together to various parts of the land and explore the local culture there. When on vacation, we try to get away from the touristy areas to explore the local scene when it comes to food, shopping and way of life.

Close to home, we enjoy attending festivals that celebrate other cultures like Chinese New Year, Greek Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival and so on. We like trying different food and later trying to make them in our kitchen. We always believe that other cultures can further enrich our lives.

Many of our friends are also from other cultural background and they enjoy sharing different aspects of from their culture with us.

Our Professional Lives

Both of us have a professional career. Adie works in the technology engineering field for the past 23 years. He is a semi conductor engineer, he helps design and validate memory chips. He currently works remotely from home with a company based in the Bay Area.

Edwin was a professional manager for 16 years between retail and hospitality. He had taken a brave step and decided to change gears and become a Pastry Chef, to which he has been doing for the last two years.

Both of our fields do require us to keep up with current times, Adie needs to keep up with the changes with in technology and Edwin needs to keep up to date on what the current trends are within the food industry, as well as learning new techniques on how to make desserts better. We both spend time studying and learning on a regular basis.

Our work ethic allows us to teach our child the importance of continuous learning and expanding our minds to new and exciting things that are happening in the world.

Our House and Neighborhood

Our Home Decorated for Christmas

We have a spacious two-story, five-bedroom home in Gold River, which is a suburb of Sacramento, California. It is a quiet and peaceful neighborhood where children play in front of their houses and ride their bikes up and down the street. The older kids ride their bikes to school and back every morning. There is a nice park for kids to play in as well as a bike trail along the river within a short walk or bike ride from the house. It is a safe and family oriented neighborhood.

Our Backyard

Our favorite room of the house is the kitchen. It has this big kitchen island where we cook and bake while catching up with our days. There is never a shortage of fresh food or treats in our house. The other place we love to spend time in is our backyard, where there are vegetable gardens and fruit trees. It has a nice open grassy area to play games in, read a book on our outdoor patio or grill food under the pergola that has hanging grapes in the summer.

Every year we have neighborhood BBQ in late summer. Not far from home, we have Sacramento Aquatic Center with a lot of water related events like boating, kayaking or even river float. Multiple farmers market with ice skating rink in winter, and annual events like Farm to Fork Festival, State Fair, Pride in the city, Chinese New Year Festival and Greek Festival that we always check out.

Our Extended Families

Visit With Our Nephew

Before moving to California, we lived in Utah, where most of our family and friends still are. We enjoyed getting together a few times a month for dinner, games or even to just hang out talking. We took turns hosting the celebration during the holidays. Typically, Thanksgiving was at our place because we enjoy cooking a 15-pound turkey to absolute perfection. Christmas brunch was at our best friend, Andrew's, and Christmas dinner was with Edwin's family. The New Year celebration coincides with our friend Yin Yin's birthday as well, so we celebrated at her place as a double party. We always have fun together and there was always a ton of food involved. Games may or may not happen but one thing for sure, everyone always left well-fed and satisfied.

With us moving to California, we do not see them as often anymore but we always make time to video chat throughout the year and make efforts to visit each other as frequent as we can. We also started to make new friends in California and we believe we can start the same thing here too.

Our family and friends are very excited about our plans on adoption, sometimes we suspect as much as us. They have been very encouraging and supportive to add more to our family members.

From Us to You

Hello,

Thank you for taking time to get to know us. We cannot begin to imagine what you must be feeling, thinking and experiencing at this time. Our hearts are with you as you face the task of making life-changing decisions for you and your child. We have a tremendous amount of admiration for your strength and courage, and offer our sincere support during this time.

We are a same-sex interracial couple. Edwin is from Buffalo, New York. He lived in Indiana before moving to Utah where he met Adie. Adie was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, but grew up in Malaysia and studied in Japan before moving to Utah. We have been together for 10 years, and married for 6 years. Now we live in a single-family home in the suburb of Sacramento, California, where Edwin is a baker in a cute local café, and Adie is a Semiconductor Memory Engineer.

We are mostly a stay-home couple. We enjoy cooking fresh healthy food for our daily meals. Being a baker, Edwin likes spending time in the kitchen, inventing new desserts or just making cookies for the neighbors during the festive season. Adie spends his free time attending to backyard vegetable and fruit garden. On a nice day, both of us like to sit down outside and read at our backyard patio surrounded by blooming summer flowers and freshly mowed lawn.

We love each other very much. From early on, we know we always wanted to build a family. After talking about it for a few years, we decided to move forward with adoption. With Adie working remotely from home in flexible hours and Edwin being able to minimize his time at the bakery, we are certain we have all the time we need to raise a child with lots of love and attention.

Although we keep alternating in deciding who is going to be the more serious parent and which is the fun one, one thing for sure is that we would like to become the parent who gives ample opportunities for the child to grow and explore while always being there whenever the child needs us. In our mind, we already envision playing games with our child on our grassy backyard, picking apples and pomegranates from the trees competing who's got the biggest one, doing Sunday grill, or biking on the trail along the nearby American River having a good time and even going on adventures exploring the world.

We hope this profile will give you some insight into our lives and the type of life that we can offer a child. Please be rest assured that your child will always know how selfless you were to make the brave decision to place them for adoption. We cannot wait to welcome the child into our home. If so you choose, we would be honored to be a part of this journey with you. We are open to kedging in touch with you and sending pictures of the child for every milestones however frequent you wish.

With much love,

Edwin & Adie
