Kevin & Amanda
We are Kevin and Amanda and we thank you for taking the time to learn more about our family! We are so excited to bring another child into our family through adoption. We hope our profile gives you a glimpse into our fun and happy home. No matter what you decide, we wish you and your child all the best.
Our Most Memorable Moment
Our most memorable moment was meeting and holding our daughter for the first time. We spent an anxious plane ride dreaming of what she would look like. We also settled on a middle name then, a combination of our mother's names. It felt like the car ride from the airport to the hospital took an eternity, but we were just so overjoyed and nervous to meet our daughter. Once we arrived to the hospital room we could not contain our excitement. Holding our daughter for the first time felt like the world stood still. We beamed with happiness and also cried tears of joy. It was truly love at first sight. She was so tiny and perfect. She had the most beautiful brown eyes and sweet little toes. From that point on, we vowed to love and keep our sweet little Amelia safe. We spent several special days with her birth mother getting to know her and also bonding with Amelia before we left the hospital. Those are memories that we will always cherish.
Our Leisure Time
Family time is our most treasured time. We enjoy spending time with our daughter by making memories -- taking her to the zoo, baking goodies, or making an art project. You can commonly find us spending time at our nearby park and swimming in the neighborhood pool. While we are not quite foodies, we do enjoy trying new restaurants and different types of food. We also enjoy going on family vacations and exploring new places. We frequently travel back home to South Dakota to spend time with our extended family.
Individually, Amanda enjoys reading a good book, exercising, and cooking. Kevin has taken up disc golf to keep himself active and also enjoys grilling/smoking up delicious things for us.
Together we enjoy growing vegetables and flowers in our garden in the summer. We enjoy watching and attending sports events to cheer on our favorite teams. We also enjoy biking, volunteering at church, watching movies, and spending time with our friends and family.
Cultural diversity is something we have spent a good amount of time educating ourselves about going back to before our first adoption. We are accepting of others that are different from ourselves and we aim to listen and learn. Our plan is to bring our child's heritage into our day to day lives. We currently do the following to achieve this goal: attend cultural events, cooking ethnic foods, selected a daycare that is racially diverse, and caring for and styling our daughter's beautiful curly hair.
Our neighborhood is culturally diverse with lots of children for our kids to connect with. The schools in our area are equally as diverse and will be a good place for children to make friends from all cultures and backgrounds. The close group of friends we have are from different backgrounds and some have been touched by adoption as well. Acceptance and respect for their culture and heritage is a priority for our family.
Our House and Neighborhood
Our family resides in a two-story home with four bedrooms on a quiet cul-de-sac. We have a spacious living area for children's toys and games. We enjoy entertaining friends and family in our open concept living area. Our backyard has a playset with spiral slide and swings where are favorite memories at home are made. For us parents, we enjoy tending to our fruit and vegetable garden and teaching our daughter about how plants grow.
Our home is in a peaceful suburb of Kansas City. We have lived here for eight years and have made life-long friends. Many of our friends have children our daughter's age and it has been wonderful to see them grow up together. Our neighborhood has events throughout the year to get residents together such as food trucks and bands. We also have a community pool within the neighborhood, where we spend many weekends relaxing and playing with our daughter.
A few short blocks away from our house is a city park with plenty of room to run and a jungle gym for the children to climb on. We make frequent visits to this park to fly kites, swing and burn off some energy.
Our Extended Families
Our parents along with our siblings and their children are all very close. We all do a group FaceTime at least once a week and see each other at least once a month. Holidays and long weekends are spent with them sharing meals, laughs and making memories.
We recently all traveled to Omaha, Nebraska to go to the zoo and explore the city. The kids had a blast at the Zoo seeing the animals and aquarium. We enjoyed peaceful evenings around a firepit talking and sharing stories. Our daughter's favorite part was playing at the splash park with her cousin. Though they were soaked head to toe, the giggles and laughs still make us smile when think about that trip.
In the upcoming year we plan to go camping at the lake, spend Easter at our home and get together on the Fourth of July.
Our family are so supportive and accepting of our first adopted child. They are overjoyed for us to grow our family again.
From Us to You
"Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans." - John Lennon
We are detail-oriented people who like to carefully plan major decisions in our lives. But the quote above rang true for us when planning to start our family and has been a mantra through our journey growing our family. Through it all, we learned that unplanned things can sometimes lead to the greatest joys in life and find new strengths you did not think were possible. We hope you feel the same way and will take a leap of faith with us on this unscripted new chapter in our lives.
Our names are Kevin and Amanda. We have been together for 12 years and married for 10. We have been blessed to grow our family through adoption once before with our sweet and smart daughter, Amelia. We thank you for taking the time to get to know our family! We are so excited to be bringing another child into our family through adoption. We hope this gives you a glimpse into our family and if you have any questions, we are an open book and don't hesitate to ask! Please know that we think you are incredibly brave and strong. No matter what you choose, we wish you and your child all the best.
To you, we have a few promises to make. Our first promise is to always put family first. We promise to love this child more than anything. We will give them the best we can offer when it comes to love, family, opportunities, and stability. Second, we promise to let your child know where they come from and who brought them into this world. As the child grows, we hope our relationship with you grows too! We want to meet you at your comfort level and want you to be involved as you would like. We currently share texts, photos and letters with our daughter's birthmother. We would love for you to be a part of birthdays, baptism, graduations and other memories. No matter what, we want you to know that our door is always open. Open adoption is an amazing opportunity to show this child all the people that love and support them. Third, we promise to be open and honest with you. We can not begin to imagine what a hard choice this is to make. We will cherish the incredible gift you give to our family that makes our hearts complete for forever.
Our daughter Amelia is 2.5 years old and is excited to be a big sister. She loves playing with other children. We expect she will thrive as an older sibling because she is kind, creative, funny and loves to play. We both have siblings that we are close to. We both have many fond memories growing up and now in adulthood with our siblings. We are so excited to grow our family once more through adoption so Amelia can have the same sibling experiences we have been blessed with.
We hope this helps you get a glimpse into our family and what life would look like for your child. More than anything, we want you to know that we will love your child unconditionally and will nurture them to be the best individual that they can be! We promise to raise them in a house full of love, generosity, kindness and and respect for others. We also promise to encourage your child's hopes and dreams to provide them the best life possible. We promise to raise your child in a happy home filled with love. We also will make sure they understand and appreciate the tremendous sacrifice you made out of love. We want to honor that by growing our relationship with you. Thank you for taking the time to learn about our family and if it is meant to be, we can't wait to meet you!
